System Development Project Manager and Business Analyst

Responsible for day-to-day programme, project and team management and supporting the IT strategy of the department.

The role is based in a key IT department within a leading Market Research company. Projects involve the collection of large data sets, rigorous validation and real time reporting. To achieve this, bespoke applications are commissioned through the IT team. These systems involve a range of technologies from setting up a system using handheld devices, secure websites or making the capture of data from traditional paper based forms more effective. The applications are used by external end clients therefore gathering of requirements, sign off and timing of deliveries are key in maintaining client satisfaction.
The position available within the IT team would be for a someone who can manage stakeholders, translate complex client requirements into a functional solution, confidently document and communicate this and then manage the development and roll-out of the product. There is an element of program management which the should be comfortable undertaking.

Key Responsibilities
Your have complete ownership and responsibility of implementing and overseeing the day-to-day operations of their projects as well as involvement in implementing the department's strategic plan. They will be responsible for the full life cycle of development driving the project to successful conclusion through requirement gathering, understand priorities, organising resource, arranging development, tracking progress, testing co-ordination and roll out of product. They will have line management responsibilities for non-technical team members.
The ideally candidate would be intellectually curious and creative and possess a strong work ethic. You will also feel comfortable multi-tasking and working in an urgent and often stressful environment. To achieve the above a flexible approach to work is very much sought.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Manage simultaneous projects and shared resource to achieve agreed milestones on time, within budget and to the required quality standards and benefits
Gather requirements and convert this into a functional specification defining product features and functionality
Make considered recommendations to take client ideas or needs forward
Work closely with software suppliers
Track progress, identify risk and produce mitigation options, deal with changing priorities
Drive the project.
Produce and manage plans and schedules using MS Project or other required PM tools
Manage and plan deployment of formal updates to the system
Maintain appropriate project documentation as required, providing regular and ad hoc progress reports to management and stakeholders
Escalate /communicate deviations, interruptions and risks to the project stakeholders
Undertake the required post-implementation evaluations to measure the success of the project
Line manage the Business Analysts and Project Managers

General Skills
The ideally candidate is expected to have the following knowledge, skills and experience on appointment:
Demonstrable experience in a similar role
Good knowledge of BA techniques and project management methods, standards and processes. Formal qualifications such as PRINCE 2 are desirable
Program management experience or an understanding of the complexities around shared resource and prioritisation
Good project planning, budgeting and tracking skills and a track record in using these successfully in a high change, multi-project environment
Experience of line management and responsibility of budget
Confident people skills to help direct the project team
Excellent written skills adequate for documenting complex assumptions, risks and commitments clearly and unambiguously
The ability to work under pressure to support project deadlines
Demonstrable ability to be confident, pragmatic and work as a self-starter
