Does your list of new year’s resolutions look something like this?
• Join the gym
• Drink less booze
• Find a better job
If it does, you’re in the majority. Wine sales fall significantly in January, gyms go all out with their marketing campaigns and recruiters and HR departments are inundated with CVs.
However, applying for jobs and getting fit aren’t usually high on most people’s agenda in November and December as people look forward to Christmas, and you can use this to your advantage. A few Aspire Global Network staff went to join the gym last week, and because it’s low season, their joining fee was waived and they were given a bargain monthly rate. So as well as being fitter than those they’re next to on the treadmill in January, they’ll be safe in the knowledge that they’re paying a lot less for the privilege as well.
The same applies to job seeking. Last January, Aspire Global Network received a whopping 23,000 job applications. In November and December combined, we received 22,000. But the difference in jobs we had to fill was much less pronounced – we had 404 new roles in November and nearly 300 in December, but just 416 jobs for those 23,000 jobseekers in January. Put simply, that’s 32 applications per job in November and December, and 55 in January. So why wait until the competition is stiffer? If you apply now, you’ll have more choice, more negotiating power, and you’ll be able to tick something off your new year to-do list.
So if you want to start your New Year in style, (or just don’t want to have to face your colleagues again after the Christmas party) it’s time to get your CV dusted off and your interview suit ironed. We look forward to hearing from you!
